This is Fast Women. Riding, Racing, and Building from the Women Behind the Machines
It is an ongoing project that sets out to explore the role of women in motorsports and motorcycle culture. In a world dominated by men, women have often been overlooked, misrepresented, or objectified by the media and the industry, monetized for advertising. Even with the recent movements highlighting the women's motorcycle community, the image communicated is still in a state of flux. I find instances of woke misogyny yet committed by women, where it is becoming more acceptable when it should not be. Today there is an opportunity to redefine how women are portrayed by bringing in to focus the experiences of those changing the game and breaking the stigma.
Through a series of photographs, video, and interviews with women who race, ride and build motorcycles, I have uncovered personal stories of passion, joy, strength, and independence. After just two years, solo journeys criss crossing the country and around my home in Boston, my curiosity for documenting the people behind the machines has exploded. What draws me in is the sense of bravery I get, an almost fearlessness, from connecting with these women who embrace life on two wheels. My hope is that my work will inspire and empower other women to live boldly.
This is an ongoing project currently in the phase of collecting stories. Please contact me if you would like to participate.
